16 ounces dark chocolate chips
2 tablespoons shortening
1 pound of fresh strawberries
3 cups of crushed walnuts
1. If walnuts are not yet crushed when bought, be sure to do this first and store walnuts in a large bowl.
2. In a double boiler, melt the dark chocolate chips and shortening, stirring occasionally. Be sure not to let the boiling water be in direct contact with the bowl containing the chocolate and shortening. Take the bowl off of heat once half is melted. The heat of the bowl will be enough to melt the rest smoothly.
3. Either with the stem of the strawberries or toothpicks, take each strawberry and dip it at least ¾ of the way into the melted chocolate. Immediately dip the chocolate covered strawberry in the crushed walnuts. Place completed strawberry on pan with wax paper. Wax paper is important to use to ensure that the strawberries do not stick to the pan.
4. Cool and store strawberries in the refrigerator.
